Heads-up mapping for Associated Architects and the Kings School Worcester
This was a really interesting project, combining as it did, mapping, 3D illustration and graphic design. Heads-up mapping is a new, innovative system that provides signage showing users where they are, based on their exact current location. So, for example, if you were lost in a city centre and found a heads-up map display, it would show you what buildings you can see directly in front of you and around you – i.e. the map takes into account where you are and in what direction you are looking when you're looking at that particular map.
Producing these maps for Kings College Worcester involved combining data from aerial views, Google Earth, 3D architects' plans and on-site photographs. Each map then went through a number of fine detail amendments with the architects and the client to get them absolutely spot-on, before they were printed and mounted to create a highly durable outdoor signage system.
