Web design and branding for National Church of England weddings website

A very significant and public web design project for the Church of England, adding to the flagship websites we have already designed and built for them.

Unlike the Christenings, Funerals and Support hub websites we've already designed for the Church of England, this design was a replacement for an live site, one with up to 5,000 users per day. The challenge was to dramatically improve upon the original design, architecture and functionality, yet keep the existing users on-side.

By far the most complicated section of this web design project is the Wedding ceremony planner – a seven-stage stand-alone portal that allows anyone to put together a comprehensive plan of their own wedding. Every users' plan is securely saved, and they can go back and amend it whenever they want. It produces a very detailed PDF of your own service, complete with your choices of hymns, prayers, readings as well as the details of who is doing what throughout the service.

Web design with search and scroll at it's core

The site as a whole has been designed with both search and 'scroll' at it's core. Rather than the traditional approach to web architecture, where a user has to try and work out which section the information they're after might be in, (and then click through to that section), we've made it a very 'flat' site, with literally everything on the homepage. Rather like Pinterest, where, if you don't immediately see what you're looking for, you scroll until you do. In this way, content can be found incredibly quickly, and without the delay of having to click, but it's also a way for the Church of England to put in front of people content that they may not necessarily have been actively looking for.

Feedback on our web design efforts...

"Brilliant website. Engaging, easy to navigate, easy to understand. I'm sure this will be very successful."

"Our couples love this site. Really helpful and practical."

"Very smart and user friendly."

"Awesome!"

Ongoing web design...

As with all of our web design projects, large and small, we remain actively involved once the site goes live, and are available for ongoing developments and improvements, as new technology and code becomes available.
